Swimming pool is green, chemical levels all test normal, “shocking” hasn’t helped. what to do?

Apparently there’s algae… we’ve put in algae killer but perhaps not enough. Should we try more shocking? More algae killer? Just wait until summer is over and then drain/refill?

Sounds like algae to me, my neighbor had the same problem last year. Algae killer should do it, just make sure to put enough in.

Drain about a foot of water out of the pool. Then put stabilizer & chlorine & maybe a little acid & algaecide. Seperate each step by like 4 hours.
That’s what my brother said. I have no idea, but I called him and am typing this as he said it. Good luck!

I have seen bleach kill almost everything. However, then you need to drain the pool, scrub it all out and refill.

Algae killer, filter, filter, filter, vacuum the bottom frequently as the dead algae drops to the bottom. What is the chlorine reading? Take a sample to your local pool company for analysis. In the mean time add some more algae killer and filter, filter, filter. Green is ok, are your sure it’s not sorta yellow. Mustard algae is a real ****** but is conquerable.

Take pool water sample to pool supply house for a complete testing. Free Chlorine, Combined Chlorine, Total Chlorine, pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness and Cyanuric Acid.
This gives you a better picture of what chemical levels are in your water.
Your CYA could be too high but you don’t test for it. This can tie up the chlorine and promote algae growth. Green algae is one of the easiest to get rid of with the right water balance.
Shocking may not be high enough. Did you raise CL 10x the reading took? With fresh water the effect is almost magical.
Test kits don’t last forever and need annual replacement.
You’re welcome!!
